Join our Youth Advisory Council!

YNOT is seeking Expressions of Interest from young Tasmanians aged 12-25 years to join our Youth Advisory Council!

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an opportunity for young people aged 12-25 years to inform our policy and project work on youth affairs. 

YAC will consist of up to 9 members from across Tasmania. We will meet online each month between September 2024 and June 2025. Membership is voluntary, and you can withdraw at anytime.

You will be paid $25 per/hr for each meeting in recognition of your time and contributions. It will also provide you with opportunities to grow your knowledge and skills in leadership, advocacy and policy development.

What's it all about? (More information)

Do I need any experience to join?

No, but you need to be comfortable sharing your ideas and opinions in a small-group meetings. 

Why should I join?

Joining YAC can help us to drive positive change for all young Tasmanians by informing our policy and project work. It can help you learn more about youth affairs and advocacy, boost your confidence and meet other like-minded young people.

It will also provide you with opportunities to grow your knowledge and skills in leadership, advocacy and policy development, by participating in:

  • Regular monthly meetings.
  • Two (2) learning workshops based on YAC's interest areas and learning needs.
  • Invitations to participate in other YNOT or sector opportunities, such as panel discussions, media requests, public speaking or events. 

What can I expect to be involved in?

YAC will help inform YNOT’s ongoing policy and project work. It is likely to include: 

  • Delivering the Tasmanian Youth Forum 2025 – including picking the topic and focus areas, and activities and discussion questions we will ask on the day.
  • Shaping our new youth participation Learning Program to help organisations work with young people in a safe, meaningful and fun way. 
  • Guiding our policy work and responses to government consultations on youth affairs. 
  • Guiding how and what information we share and ways we communicate with young people, ensuring that it is relevant and youth-friendly.

Information Collection and Storage

YNOT will use the information provided in this form to select YAC members and contact successful applicants. It will not be shared with any third party. Data is stored in accordance with standards set by the Personal Information Protection Act (TAS) 2004.

Child and Youth Safety

Your participation is voluntary and you can choose to withdraw at any time and you are not required to give an explanation as to why. If you feel uncomfortable when working with YNOT, we encourage you to let a YNOT staff member or trusted adult know. YNOT is committed to child safety and wellbeing, and complies with obligations set by the Tasmanian Government Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework.

In Tasmania, mandatory reporting requirements are outlined in the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act (TAS) 1997. If a disclosure or observation is made that raises concern for the safety, wellbeing or welfare of a child, YNOT will report this to the Strong Families, Safe Kids – Advice and Referral Line on 1800 000 123 in the first instance. Relevant authorities will be contacted where required. 

All YNOT staff and volunteers hold a valid Working with Vulnerable People registration.
