A new report released today by the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) highlights the significant challenges young Tasmanians continue to face when attempting to access safe, affordable and appropriate housing across the State.

YNOT has renewed calls for the State Government to prioritise the housing needs of young Tasmanians as Homelessness Week kicks off around the country today.

Over one hundred and twenty young Tasmanians aged 12-25 years will travel to Launceston today to voice their concerns, contribute ideas and identify solutions at the 2024 Tasmanian Youth Forum (TYF) on Housing. Key findings from the event will be used to inform future policy and initiatives impacting young people living in Tasmania. 

Youth Week Tasmania, the State’s largest celebration of young people, kicks of today with exciting events planned across Tasmania. With events running from Monday, 8 April – Sunday, 14 April 2024, young people will have the chance to attend live music, skate and scoot competitions, festivals, movie nights, street art workshops, gaming events and more!

The Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT), the peak body for young people aged 12-25 years, has joined with key advocacy groups on National Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD) to urge governments to commit to key actions which will deliver better outcomes for young people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

The Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) has recently released a Discussion Paper: Becoming an adult: the experience of young Tasmanians today for public consultation. YNOT CEO, Tania Hunt said, “this public consultation process provides an opportunity for all Tasmanians to provide feedback on how we can better support young people to successfully transition into adulthood.”.

Members of the Tasmanian Youth Employment Alliance have thrown their support behind the Beacon Foundation and TCCI who are calling for the State Government to establish a taskforce to help guide the development of the States first ever Youth Jobs Strategy. The Youth Employment Alliance, an initiative of the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT), is a unique collaboration of experienced youth focused services, that work collectively to elevate the voices of young Tasmanians 15-25 years in addressing barriers to economic participation and further education and training in Tasmania. 

The Youth Network of Tasmania and Brand Tasmania today released the report and findings from the Tasmanian Youth Story project. This project aimed to capture the unique experiences of what it is like being a young person living in Tasmania, in order to help decision-makers better understand the opportunities, challenges, wants and needs of young people aged 18-25 years. 

The State’s Youth Peak Body, the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) will host the 2023 Tasmanian Youth Forum: Mental Wellbeing and Resilience in Launceston today {Friday, 2 June}. Over 160 young people aged 12-25 years from across Tasmania will come together to explore what resources and supports they need to be mentally well and resilient during tough times.

The Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT), the Tasmanian Behavioural Lab and the Peter Underwood Centre will officially launch a report entitled Emergent Adulthood: Review of Literature in Hobart tomorrow {THURSDAY, 1 JUNE}. This important piece of work integrates academic literature to better understand the general challenges and experiences of young people between the ages of 18-25 years in Tasmania today.

Tasmania’s young people are calling for action to increase their safety and the safety of others using public transport in Tasmania according to the findings of the Tasmanian Youth Forum Report Transport published today. 

The Youth Employment Alliance, an initiative of the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) will today launch the Youth Navigators Program.  The program is a 12-month pilot to support 2020 Tasmanian school leavers to navigate work, education and training in a COVID changed world.

YNOT attended the Budget Community Group Lock-up before the release of the 2021-22 Liberal State Government Budget on Thursday, 26 August 2021. This Budget contains record investment by the Tasmanian Government to improve the health and wellbeing of Tasmania's children and young people and will support the successful implementation of the Tasmanian Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy Action Plan 2021-2025.

Responsibility for children and youth affairs in Government has been assigned to newly appointed Minister for Children and Young People the Hon. Sarah Courtney MP. This appointment, announced by Premier Gutwein today, has been welcomed by the state's youth peak body, the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT).
