Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2012
Be Part of the Solution!
Youth Homelessness Matters Day is a national awareness campaign, run by the National Youth Coalition for Housing (NYCH), and held during National Youth Week. YNOT is the Tasmanian representative for NYCH.
YNOT’s event for YHMD was held in the Elizabeth St Mall, on 18 April 2012. The event involved an amazing art installation of personally decorated 'rubiks cubes', curated by well known local artist and curator Caroline Amos. These cubes were created by young people from a number of local youth homelessness services, who were encouraged to express their thoughts, in any artform they would like to use, on this year's theme of 'Be Part of the Solution' in decorating their cubes. An audio recording and installation were also part of the event on the day.
People who attended the event on the day were also able to make their own cube and offer up their own ideas on being part of the solution to youth homelessness.
All of the relevant Ministers attended our event on the day and were and handed the National Youth Coalition for Housing’s Charter of Rights.
Local Tasmanian youth services, Colony 47, Youth and Family Focus, and Mission Australia also had stalls on the day, providing information about their great services, doing fun and interactive activities and joining in making cubes!
